A Little More Speed

Question: Do those little speed bumps that are heat shrunk (or nock set) onto the lower serving just above the bottom cam on single cam bows work? If so, how do you calculate where to place one if you want to put one on a bow that came without one? How much speed do they add?

Answer: The amount of speed these small "speed bumps" adds depends on the bow, but in most cases they add about two to four feet per second. They are generally located about four inches from the cam, but the best way to determine if they are effective on your bow and where best to place them is to shoot arrows through a chronograph while moving the weights up and down the string. Most companies simply use two large brass nock sets for the added weight. This is an easy test to perform yourself if you can get access to a chronograph.
